Warehouse jobs can be very steady and well paying. The job of a warehouse worker varies depending on where one works. Most times the order of operations in a warehouse begins with the “handlers” in the warehouse. Their warehouse jobs are to load and unload merchandise as it is received or when it needs to be shipped to a customer. Sometimes they do the unloading by hand and sometimes with a forklift. A forklift is a very small truck which can lift and carry merchandise which is kept on wooden pallets (platforms). It lifts the merchandise while it is still on the pallet. In a very large warehouse there may be conveyer belts or other automated equipment to move the goods within the warehouse.
Another one of the essential warehouse jobs is that of a warehouse record clerk. The record clerk is responsible to keep records of all goods incoming to and outgoing from a warehouse. Without this position being filled no one would know how much of or what merchandise they have available. There is also a need for order fillers who locate and assemble the merchandise for the customers orders.
Then there are warehouse jobs for shipping clerks who work in the shipping room, packing and crating the merchandise and preparing it to be sent by attaching postage and the shipping bill to the order.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, availability or warehouse jobs is expected to grow in the coming years. That is of course dependent on the economy growing. You see if the economy grows then people will buy more things which need to be stored in warehouses on their way to the consumers hands. said that in the year 2004 the wages were between $12.32/hr and $20.52/hr depending whether you were a stock clerk, a shipping clerk, or a warehouse supervisor. Usually warehouse jobs provide benefits such as paid vacations and legal holidays, life and health insurance, and a retirement plan.

Dress Accordingly:
Ditch the suit and the tie, you will not need them. Your interviewer would not be as dressed up as the ordinary interviewers in more formal businesses. Wear something a level higher than your interviewer. A button down shirt, khaki slacks, and leather loafers will do. Make sure that your belt and your loafers have the same color. Bring an additional shirt as there is a chance that the interviewer might ask you lift stuff around the warehouse.
Maintain Proper Hygiene:
There is a chance that the warehouse may not be air-conditioned and probably is too warm. Never forget to shower and apply anti-perspirant. The heat in the warehouse and possibly the practical tests that the interviewers will give you will surely make you sweat a lot. Showering and applying anti-perspirant will minimize the odor of sweat in the body.
Avoid wearing cologne or perfume because; first, your interviewer might not like the scent and second, the cologne may combine with sweat which can produce disastrous body odor.
Review the Standard Operating Procedures in Warehouse:
Learn how to do the standard operating procedures in the warehouse. Study how some machines work. The interview may contain questions such as “What are the steps to lift a box safely?” or “Tell us about your experience with handling hazardous materials, such as paint and cleaners.”
Review your safety manuals on how to operate the machines in the warehouse. Learn how to explain the steps on how to do specific task in the warehouse as well as the rationale behind each step.
Prepare All Your Requirements:
Some machines need specific licenses to operate. Make sure that you have the original and 2 photocopies of the documents. Submit your resume so that it will highlight your best and it is relevant to the specific position that you are applying for.
Be organized with your papers. Avoid looking like a mess when attending an interview. Place all your requirements in folders or sturdy envelops.
Research About the company and the Position:
Know what kind of products the company works with and about the company’s business. Follow up on their history and get to know the position as well. Research the duties and responsibilities of the position you are applying for.

There is not usually any educational training needed for applicants of warehouse jobs. You will usually only need on the job training. But, since you may have to lift heavy things you have to be in good physical shape. So you’d better start excercising before you apply for any warehouse jobs. And be prepared to work hard because the work is strenuous. In addition to lifting heavy packages you may also have to do a lot of walking back and forth if you get a job in a large warehouse. The working conditions may be difficult depending on what warehouse job you get. If for example you work on a loading platform loading or unloading trucks you will have to be outside in all weather conditions which might not be so comfortable. But hey a job’s a job !
